So tired.

Do you really know the real meaning of exhaustion before you are a parent? I honestly don't think you do. Having 5 kids I'm pretty certain I finally understand the true meaning of exhaustion. From having a 2 yr old who still doesn't sleep through the night, to having a 13 yr old who breaks his curfew by 2 hours...I..Am...Tired!

My day normally starts at 5:30 for work. I get up, get ready, grab a coffee and am out the door by 6:15. This of course is not including days where I need to clean the milk racks at work (up at 3:30), or the last day of every month where we have to do inventory at work. (up at 2:30) I get to work, put in my 8-8.5 hours, trying to get as much accomplished as I can manage. After work I grab milk or whatever else I need to ensure once I get home I don't have to leave, and begin my long drive home. Once I get home, I grab the kids, usually the older three are out galavanting somewhere and turn up at home when they are ready, so it's usually just the two little boys I need to pick up. I get home, unpack, and start the dinner process. I am lucky enough that at least for the time being my hubby has taken over the majority of the laundry so I am doing only a little bit of that currently. Before dinner, I clean, during making dinner, I clean, and after dinner, I clean.  Then once dinner is cleaned up, the older kids help out now, its a toss up. Some days there is the process of making sure all 5 kids are cleaned and showered, some days the older kids go out to find friends, other days dinner is so late its almost bedtime.

I am tired.

After our very busy weekend, I was tired. There was no chance of sleeping in last weekend, to make sandwiches and snacks, I was up at 6:30 Saturday and 5:45 Sunday. Two full days of being outside in the sun all day and late nights, I was Tired. Have I mentioned I was tired??? So Monday night, Matthias asked to go out and I said ok, but only until 8 tonight because....I was tired! It really didn't give him a lot of time but I thought because of the late nights the last two days it was fair. So 8 rolls around, 8:30, 9, 9:30. 10!! Where is this kid?! He is usually pretty good about being on time, so by now I am starting to worry. So Dave being the dutiful husband he is, goes out to look for our wayward son to make sure he's not laying broken in a ditch somewhere...Nope! He was fine(and now with a super mad dad on his hands). Two streets over playing with friends. His watch battery had died and it hadn't occured to him in the two hour period that perhaps something was wrong with his watch-no that's not true, it occured to him but he was having too much fun to be bothered with it.
That earned him a 'no going out past dinnertime' for 1 day for each half hour he was late, it also killed my dreams of an early bedtime that night.

Did I mention I am tired? There is a end to this I promise.

Tuesday...tuesday I decide I am SO going to bed early. I am getting tired to the point of...'should I drive home?' I am so tired. I go about my day, the kids are pretty good today, I am making dinner and we get a knock on our door. We have been discussing getting some additional home security for some time now and the right deal for us had  just arrived.. This was awesome, so they come and hook everything up, great service, but it took until after 10:30 to get done! Finally getting to bed at 11 and
setting my alarm for 3:30 seemed so wrong.

Did I mention I was tired.

There is a point to this all. You know you are tired when you put your tampon in upside down!!

THAT people is tired!

It is now 9pm. Jeshie has just knocked over my wine glass, breaking it spilling sticky goo everywhere. Dave is out for the evening. I am sooo  done. 9:10, kids are in bed, and so am I!!

See you soon!!

Ps. I should mention that my pee phone works just fine!!

Zoo

Today we got up extra early to spend a day at the zoo, something we haven't done in years!! By some miracle we were up, made lunches and out the door by 7:30am so we could get the most out of our day.
We got to the zoo by 10:30 and met up with our friends, some we hadn't seen in 2 yrs so that was pretty cool. We started the trip by taking the 100 kids we had with us to the bathroom, pretty standard right?? Well the line was pretty long so I decided it was in everyone's best interest to get things moving and I went in with Asher. He peed and I bent over to help him with his pants and sure enough  I heard something fall into the toilet. I took me a minute before I realized in shock and horror that my phone had slipped out of my back pocket and into the toilet...which had not yet been flushed!! What a way to start our trip. Of course no one happened to have packed a spare baggie of rice, so it remains to be seen if it will ever work again or not :(
The next melodrama came when we went to retrieve our pre paid tickets...somehow they had lost them!! I have no idea how this happened, but after 20 minutes or so they showed up in an envelope addressed Jeannine Somethingorother...it was the right amount of tickets, so if there is a Jeannine who couldn't get into the zoo today because your tickets were gone, sorry! I swear we paid for ours and I have no idea how they filed them under that name or how they came to realize that they were actually ours!!
The rest of the day was pretty smooth sailing. It was a nice day to walk around the zoo and spend time with everyone. The kids really enjoyed seeing all the animals and were especially glad that we got the see the penguins and they got to say goodbye to the elephants who will be moving.
Capping off the day is my now more ridiculous burn. I have three diifferent burn lines going on up top thanks to my farmer's tan from yesterday, my camera strap burn, now my bra strap and tank top burn...it looks awesome. Even my one lonely wrinkle has a burn line now!! It's white on the inside and red on the outside, I'm sure from frowning and squinting from the sun. I'm sure I'll hear about my raccoon eyes at work tomorrow lol.
Once we left there we made it to Costco in time for them to close the doors right in front of me, thanks Costco, and then we took the kids out to dinner. I'm pretty sure we are officially broke from this weekend but it's once a summer and it was totally worth it!! Everyone's home in bed now, and I think that's where I'll go too!

See you soon!

Airshow

So today we got up early and took the kids to the Airshow in Lethbridge, lunch was packed and we were out the door by 8! It was their first time going and it was a surprise, so I was excited but they had no clue what was going on....which really was part of the fun. We got there on time but made the unfortunate mistake of not bringing chairs, so really Jeshie is the only one who got to sit down all day. It was really cool watching all the different kinds of planes do their tricks, I think you appreciate it more as an adult though because you know how difficult it must be to do, where kids take it for granted just a little bit more. It was really cool watching the jet engined bus do it's thing, it was so fast that once it got going I couldn't even get a blurry picture of it! That was something none of us had ever seen before...and then there was the jet engined porta potty, only in Alberta I swear! And yes, the guy actually sits on the toilet in it. Another suped up car did a wheelie for what must have been a kilometer and jet speeds which was crazy cool!

As the day wore on the kids began to watch less and play more, as kids tend to do.  Asher and Jeshua do this love wrestling thing, Asher antagonizes Jeshua by calling him 'poopy pants', Jeshie chases him till his catches him then drags him to the ground and does whatever suits him at the moment. Today that moment meant biting Asher in the ear. So Asher yells of course, we pull them apart, and as I'm checking the ear is see a red blob on the back of it. My first though is 'way to go Mike Tyson, now we're gonna have to go the hospital', until I looked closer and realized that his ear was fine, it was just a piece of saliva logged licorice that Jeshie had spit on his brother in the process of biting him. Yum. But I will admit it is a step up from the near cannibalism I thought was happening....

So at the end of the day, rocking a new, spotty and totally un-even sunburn, we are ready to go home. (I now look like a raccoon, I am burnt mostly on my right side, I have camera straps burnt into my neck and there is a spot under my chin that is still white!) We grab dinnerto go. Once home we start the process of getting 5 kids bathed/showered with one bathroom, sounds fun right?? Inevitably it means a fight starts between the older three which of course it did again tonight...sigh...so the little boys get to bath first, solves the 'who goes first' problem right? Well sorta, it did anyway until Jeshie pooped in the tub and we had to shower them on top of already having a bath and clean the tub!! He's never done that before, I made myself busy so I wouldn't have to be the one to scoop it out :D

That was our day. Tomorrow we have decided to conquer the zoo!

See you soon!

Much Ado....

So what do you blog about when there is nothing to blog about?? A great question I ask myself....I don't really know yet so today my blog will be...about today. Two big things happened today, Matthias got his first bank account, and Asher ran away for the first time....one thing at a time.

Matthias is 13 now and has been doing some small jobs this summer earning some cash, that combined with some awards he won at the end of the school year this year put him over the top at $300!! That's a lot of money for a kid who really doesn't grasp the money concept well yet and tends to lose it as a result...(if I had won money to do school work I likely would have done it way more often and with more effort!!) So he decided he wants to save for his own laptop and we decided a bank account was in order. This turned out to be more compicated than it sounds. The reason being is that the name he recognizes as his and uses daily and his legal last name are two different things. Not fun. It took some sorting out but by the end of the day we got the account open for him, he has his very first bank card, and we've come to the conclusion that the time has come to get the ball rolling on his legal name change so who he identifies himself as and his name are both one and the same!!

Now to Asher, my sweet wants to please everyone 4 year old. He has been learning to ride his bike, very exciting!! However today something went awry with his sister and he decided to run away. This happened while I was at the bank with his brother and they were all hanging out with their uncle...So being 4 and putting the thought into it that he did...he ran all the way to...drum roll please...home. Yup, he defiantly ran HOME! This was a big deal, Jaelle was freaked right out! Omg mom...(the message she leaves on my cell), Asher RAN AWAY! I should mention that we live 3 houses apart and we can see each others' house from the end of each of our driveways. Once I found out the whole story it was sort of anticlimatic...but funny just the same. Asher was very serious in his explaining of his running away

Now it is just about bedtime at our house. Dinner's been cleaned up. Crayons too (that the little kids and their cousins were throwing in the air and having shower down on them), teeth are being brushed and Jeshie is using a bubble wand as a weapon so it's definetly time for him to go to bed, he gets bad when he's tired. This is often my favourite time of the day as all I can think of doing by now is just sitting...glorious sitting and off my poor sore, tired, feet.

Well that pretty much sums up our day today. Did I mention I had deep fried dill pickles for lunch, yum.

See you soon!!

The Beginning

So this is the beginning...where we go from here I frankly have no idea, but it should be fun figuring it out ?! Well, that's the hope anyway. This was sort of a spur of the moment thing really, something I've thought of on and off for awhile but finally thought...why not? It should be interesting as time goes on to look back on posts and see what was going on in our lives at any given time.  Maybe I'm crazy for starting it in the middle of summer, that's probably not shocking....

See you soon!
